Is Stolen Valor a Crime?
Stolen Valor is a term used to describe any false claim to military awards or service, including ribbons and medals. Fraudulent claims can range from simply claiming to be a veteran to fabricating heroic acts.
Some people make these claims to gain a political advantage, while others make false claims to obtain veteran’s benefits or to be awarded certain military accolades. Either way, there is no escaping the fact that lying about military service is not an honorable act.
The Stolen Valor Act is a federal law that criminalizes the fraudulent presentation of military medals. It was enacted in 2005 and made it illegal to claim unearned military decorations.
If convicted of stolen valor, the person could face fines, imprisonment, or both. However, if the alleged offender does not admit to the crime, he or she may not be liable to any of these penalties.
Stolen Valor cases are especially prevalent during times of crisis. In the Northwest, for instance, the law was implicated in the prosecution of a 41-year-old man who claimed to be a 41-year-old veteran, even though he had never served in the military.

Why are BDUs Called Fatigues?
BDU, or Battle Dress Uniform, is a camouflaged combat uniform worn by military personnel. It is also used by police and fire departments, law enforcement agencies and tactical law enforcement agents. These uniforms have been in use since the early 1980s.
The BDU’s origins lie in the tropical combat uniforms used by the American military during World War II. The BDU was the ideal working uniform, and took on many forms over the years. They are now worn by many federal agencies and law enforcement agents in tactical situations.
In the 1930s, the Germans began to experiment with camouflage clothing. Heeres-Splittermuster 31, or “splinter pattern,” was authorized. This pattern was commonly used in shelter-quarters. It was known as “digital” in the original design, but evolved into the Woodland Camouflage Pattern.
This pattern was printed on cotton-nylon blend twill cloth. Shades of green, black and tan were used. Originally, the uniform was olive drab, which quickly wore out.
During the first few years, the United States military wore a monocolor version of the combat uniform. After 1981, the BDU’s came into widespread use.

What Camo Does the Army Use 2022?
Military uniforms have undergone numerous iterations over the years. In recent years, however, the US military has adopted an advanced camo pattern. This pattern, referred to as Operational Camouflage Pattern (OCP), is currently the standard for the United States Army and Air Force.
The OCP uniform is also worn by South Korea and Lebanon. It offers enhanced protection for soldiers, including fire resistance.
The US Army also adopted MultiCam (r) in 2010, which is a more rigid pattern that provides greater concealment than the OCP. However, the OCP design also provides better concealment than MultiCam in most environments.
MultiCam is a variant of the UCP, which was originally developed by Crye Precision and the US Army. It is widely used in the Middle East and Afghanistan.
The new Operational Camouflage Pattern will replace the Universal Camouflage Pattern as the military’s standard camo pattern. The pattern is intended to allow soldiers to perform their jobs in a variety of different environments.
MultiCam was created by Crye Precision in 2004 and has since been modified by the US Army. It is also used by the US Special Operations community.
Do Marines Still Use Desert Camo?
The Marine Corps is the only branch of the United States Armed Forces to have ever used camouflage uniforms. During the Second World War, the US Marines wore camouflage suits similar to modern-day ghillie suits. These outfits were designed to resemble rock surfaces and greenery.
Today, the Marine Corps has three different types of uniforms: dress blues, mountain warfare, and Combat Utility. Each uniform is used to perform specific functions.
While the Marines do not currently wear desert uniforms, they will continue to wear woodland camo. A Marine’s “Woodland” pattern is green and features a brown or tan gridded print. It is primarily worn in the summer, but will be worn year-round.
In the winter, the Marines wear a Woodland Green MARPAT pattern. This uniform is also used for field exercises.
In 2002, the Marines selected a digital pattern for their combat uniform. Two US Marines were given early prototypes. They wore the clothing and tested them.
There was a delay while the new pattern was rolled out. Eventually, the digital pattern was restricted to Special Warfare units.
